RNs and LPNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education during each renewal period, including 2 contact hours in Prevention of Medical Errors, 2 contact hours in Laws and Rules in Nursing, 2 contact hours in Human Trafficking and 2 contact hours in Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace every other biennium (every 4 years). In addition to these 24 contact hours of general continuing education, 2 contact hours in Domestic Violence must be completed every third renewal (every 6 years) for a total of 26 contact hours. There is also a one-time, 1 contact hour requirement on HIV/AIDS that must be completed prior to the first renewal.

Important: All mandatory/required courses must be offered by a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider and include a post-test. All other courses that are approved by by a state or national nursing organization, such as ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center), are acceptable and don’t require a post-test.
