INTRODUCTION

Sexual harassment was first coined in the mid 1970s but has existed in the workplace for a long time and is still a problem today. Even as women comprise nearly half the workforce, sexual harassment in the workplace remains a major, pervasive, and troublingly unresolved problem in virtually every sector of the economy, from male-dominated to female-dominated industries and workplaces, and from low-wage and precarious jobs to high-wage professions. The Pew Research Center, for instance, found that 6 in 10 women and nearly 3 in 10 men say they’ve experienced verbal or physical sexual harassment or unwanted sexual advances in and outside the workplace, with 69 percent of women who have experienced harassment saying at least one incident happened in their workplace (1).
